Back to Perfusion
In the case of a pet that has been euthanized by a local veterinarian, first perform stabilization and cooling, then remove some water from the ice bath. Perform an enhanced access sternotomy. Cannulate the aorta. Other arteries may or may not be occluded, depending on the size of the pet, urgency, and the ease of access. Begin Perfusion. Make an incision in the SVC and suction the effluent.
Reduce the volumes listed for human patients, proportional to weight. For smaller pets, the entire body may be perfused instead of just the head, so consider the amount of tissue being perfused when adjusting the volumes.
